CATHOLIC HISTORY DAY 2000

The Society got away to an impressive start with a highly successful inaugural seminar held at St. David's Sixth Form College Cardiff on 20th May last. Following opening remarks by His Grace Archbishop Ward, the opening address was delivered by Rt. Hon Paul Murphy MP - Secretary of State for Wales, to an audience of eighty plus drawn from across Wales and the border area. Monmouth and Herefordshire were particularly well represented and we were especially pleased to welcome those from other Christian traditions. Following the keynote address Father Christopher Fox gave a highly entertaining account of "The Vaughans of Courtfield". After lunch Madge Cusack O'Keefe delivered an address upon "The Jesuit College at Cwm". The days proceedings were brought to a conclusion by Sean Cleary's pictorially-driven account of the experience of the Rosminians in mid-nineteenth century Cardiff.

The success of the day was best expressed by the reluctance of those present to leave and the close to unanimous requests that further presentations and activities be organised in short order ! The Society is much in the debt of the Principal of St. David's Sixth Form College, Mr Derek Bodey for his welcome and the excellent facilities and catering provided by the College staff. In particular the hard work of Mr. Mike Barry, the College Deputy Principal, was the key to the day's success. A fuller account of the day can be found in edition No. 3 of The Old Faith - Yr Hen Ffydd
